Former UFC Heavyweight Champion Andre Arlovski is back amongst the UFC ranks. The Belorussian has not been seen in the UFC ranks for over seven years, when he defeated Jake O'Brien.
The news was broken on Twitter when UFC President Dana White tweeted 'Welcome back Andrei Arlovski!'
Although Arlovski was signed with World Series Of Fighting and had one fight left on his contract, 'The Pitbull' was allowed to terminate his contract. MMAFighting's Ariel Helwani said:
"According to World Series of Fighting executive vice president Ali Abdel-Aziz, Arlovski's contract recently expired, however, he did have one fight left on it.
"WSOF had the option to extend the contract because Arlovski had to pull out of the last fight due to an injury, but they chose to release him from the deal after he asked to re-sign with the UFC.
"Arlovski brought attention to us when we needed it. At this point, I wish him the best of luck back in the UFC."
It was very surprising when Arlovksi left the UFC in 2007. He was at the top in the company, having won the UFC Heavyweight Title and he also tried to capture it back twice against Tim Sylvia.
However, he left the company to sign for Affliction MMA, where he was a paid a significant amount more than when fighting in the UFC.
It also gave him an oppurtunity to meet Heavyweight legend Fedor Emelianenko, where 'The Pitbull lost in the first round by KO.
The Belorussian has been in excellent form lately, going 6-1 and 1NC against Tim Sylvia. He looks set to beat Brendan Schaub in his return at UFC 174
