NFL fans hate new draft date

The NFL draft this year will be held on May 8th, the date is a break in tradition from the usual offseason calendar which had the draft in April.

The change in the calendar was originally due to a double booking at the Radio City Music Hall in New York, the venue of the draft. However it was believed that the change in the schedule would be permanent, a move which NFL fans are certainly not a fan of.

In a poll today on ProFootballTalk, over 96% of the 10,000 fans polled said that they preferred the NFL draft to be held in April rather than the new date in May.

Although NFL commissioner, Roger Goodell has said that the date for the 2015 draft is not set in stone and so fans may get their wish of a slightly earlier place in the calendar.

Jeff Darlington tweeted: "Goodell told me he's unsure if NFL Draft will remain in May or go back to April."

The downside to the draft being held two weeks after the usual date has created a certain lull in interest with NFL teams and draft eligible players alike commenting that they were ready weeks ago.

Teams have been able to hold thorough visits with players that they may wish to select of course, but there is a general consensus that they would have been ready for a draft to be held this week.

Whether Goodell listens to these concerns from fans and teams remains to be seen. But in the mean time why don't you check out the latest NFL draft news here on GiveMeSport?
