11 days ago we told you about the harrowing story of Yasiel Puig's background and the traumatic journey he took just to become a professional baseball player in the United States - you can read it here.
Well now that defection story - originally by Jesse Katz of the Los Angeles Magazine - is being picked up by a film company and is set to be turned in to a Hollywood blockbuster.
From The Hollywood Reporter:
"In a heated competition, Brett Ratner and his RatPac Entertainment have acquired the rights to Jesse Katz’ article Escape From Cuba: Yasiel Puig's Untold Journey to the Dodgers."
Whilst it seems a bit much for Puig to be getting his own biopic at the tender age of 23, if you knew seen what he had to go through then you wouldn't be surprised.
Puig was basically held hostage and kidnapped by a bunch of smugglers when negotiations about his contract went south. One of the smugglers was apparently killed on Puig's orders and he had a gun put to his head.
It’s unclear when production will start up on the film, but just the fact that Puig is getting a movie made about him will only feed into everything baseball fans love and hate about him.
