Arsenal are reported to have initiated contact with the representatives of Antoine Griezmann to gauge the Real Sociedad forward’s potential availability in the summer transfer window. Griezmann has been in excellent form this season, leading to links with some of the continent’s most prominent clubs.

Griezmann has scored 16 times and provided three assists in La Liga, with the majority of his appearances coming in an advanced left-sided position, and claims the 23-year-old has been outlined as one of Arsenal’s top summer targets.

The France international is rated at around £25 million by Real Sociedad, although they will fight to retain his services, with the player currently contracted until 2016. Were Arsenal to outlay such a fee then Griezmann would be their second most expensive acquisition behind Mesut Ozil.

Arsenal are expected to outline the recruitment of another goalscorer or two as a priority during the transfer window, and Griezmann’s versatility will make him an attractive proposition for Arsene Wenger. The Gunners boss, however, is likely to still desire another natural central striker to provide both competition and support for Olivier Giroud.

Wenger, meanwhile, on Friday provided the clearest indication yet that he will commit to another contract with Arsenal, with his current deal set to expire at the end of the season.
