Magic Johnson, the basketball legend at the heart of the Donald Sterling-Los Angeles Clippers racism storm has reacted to the punishments given out by NBA Commissioner Adam Silver.

Just moments ago, Silver - the man who took over from long time boss David Stern - faced the first big decision of his short career to date, and seemingly passed the test by bringing the hammer down against the Clippers owner.

Silver handed Sterling a lifetime ban from the NBA, the maximum fine permitted at $2.5million dollars, and has scheduled an almost immediate vote from the other owners that should see him renounced as owner of the Clippers franchise.

Magic was seemingly pleased with announcement and tweeted his support for the sanctions levied against the 80-year old.

From Johnson's twitter account; @MagicJohnson:

"Commissioner Silver showed great leadership in banning LA Clippers owner Donald Sterling for life."
"Former and current NBA players are very happy and satisfied with Commissioner Silver's ruling."
"Now the Clippers players and fans can concentrate on the game tonight against the Warriors with Commissioner Silver's decision."
"Current and former NBA players now know that in Commissioner Adam Silver we have a great leader leading our league."
"Now let's hope that the other 29 owners do the right thing." (in voting Sterling out as owner)"
"The people who I'm happiest for are Coach Doc Rivers, the Clippers players and fans."
