FC Nurnburg striker Josip Drmic will sign for Arsenal this summer despite growing interest from other Bundesliga clubs, claims Lothar Matthaus.

Arsenal have been heavily linked with the Swiss international in recent weeks, yet any potential switch to the Gunners appeared to be in doubt with the likes of Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen seemingly having entered the race for his signature.

However, Germany legend Matthaus - who first spoke about the possibility of Drmic joining Arsenal in March in his role as a pundit - is insistent that a move to the Emirates Stadium will still happen for the player during the next transfer window.

"Although now Dortmund, Gladbach and Leverkusen also have interest, I'm saying Josip Drmic will switch to Arsenal," the legendary former German international is quoted as saying by Swiss tabloid Blick.

But while Matthaus appears more certain than ever that Drmic - who is reportedly valued at approximately €4.5 million - will line up for Arsenal in the future, he did appear to concede that he may have made a mistake with initial suggestions that the player's wife had already commenced the process of finding the pair somewhere to live in London.

"I have made a mistake. I said his wife is already looking up apartments. The fact is that this is his girlfriend. Drmic has a girlfriend for nine months.. She lived five or six months with him in Nuremberg."

With Arsene Wenger expected to be on the hunt for at least one new striker this summer, Drmic's arrival in North London certainly would not come as much of a surprise - particularly given the fact that he appears to be available for such a low fee.

Having scored 16 goals in 31 Bundesliga appearances this season, it is clear to see that 21-year-old Drmic clearly has a lot of potential.

However, given that he only has one solitary season of top-flight football under his belt in what one might reasonably consider to be one of European football's most demanding leagues, questions could be raised as to whether Drmic is experienced enough to provide a significant challenge to the likes of Olivier Giroud at Arsenal.
