Arsenal have joined Chelsea in the race to land Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa.

Arsene Wenger is planning to make a £31million offer for the Spanish international in hope that Costa will reject a move to Stamford Bridge in order to lead Arsenal’s attack next season.

The Daily Mirror believe the Gunners will make a move for Costa if Chelsea decide to switch their attention elsewhere between now and the start of the summer.

Wenger faces a gigantic battle to pip Chelsea to the signing of one of the most highly-rated strikers in world football as the Blues are said to be clear favourites to land the Atletico Madrid forward.

Both Chelsea and Arsenal will be in the market for a striker in the summer as Jose Mourinho and Wenger are far from happy with their current options.

Mourinho has stated on several occasions that he will sign a top-class forward in the summer as Fernando Torres, Samuel Eto’o and Demba Ba could all leave Stamford Bridge in the summer.

Wenger, on the other hand, has finally admitted he has overplayed Olivier Giroud this season so is plotting a move for a striker of a similar calibre to Costa.
