Louis Van Gaal may have proven exactly just why he is the perfect candidate for the vacant Manchester United managerial position, as it was reported this morning that Thomas Muller is keen to move to the Old Trafford club if he takes over.

According to the Metro, citing German publication Bild, the 24-year-old forward is looking to leave Bayern Munich this summer and wants to once again work under Van Gaal. The 62-year-old boss managed Muller for two seasons between 2009 to 2011 and it would appear that he’s left a lasting impression, which could land United one of their top summer targets.

Despite having bagged himself 25 goals in all competitions this year Muller has been mostly on the periphery of Pep Guardiola’s title-winning squad at the Allianz Arena, and wants more game-time – something which United could definitely afford him. Said to be worth £35million, the Germany international is certainly affordable given that United have put aside a rumoured £150million for transfers, and so it looks like a deal could easily be done.

The same report also claims that United have retained their strong interest in fellow Bayern star Toni Kroos, though it remains to be seen whether or not Van Gaal will boost their chances of landing him.
