Manchester United look set to complete a deal for Southampton’s Luke Shaw, as Chelsea have dropped out of the running.

According to the Express Jose Mourinho has turned to other options with regards to finding a successor to Ashley Cole, as he believes £30million is too high a price to pay for the Southampton starlet. It was previously thought that the Blues would match the Red Devils all the way in the race for the 18-year-old, whose inclusion in the PFA Team of the Year has confirmed his status as one of the brightest talents in the Premier League.

However contrary to that notion, the Express claim that the door is now open for United as they are willing to pay £100,000-a-week to lure the youngster to Old Trafford, as well as being happy to meet the required sum. It’s looking increasingly like Louis van Gaal will be appointed as the new manager of the reigning English champions, and so a deal for Shaw could well be sorted fairly swiftly.

Van Gaal has already reportedly asked United for the money to sign a number of targets, and it’s thought that the club will back his ambitions significantly in order to alleviate concerns over a repeat of last summer’s transfer shortcomings.
