Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo recorded a special message for Manchester United’s current interim player-manager Ryan Giggs, who picked up a lifetime achievement award from the Red Devils on Thursday evening.

Giggs received the coveted accolade at Manchester United’s Player of the Year awards ceremony ahead of his final game in charge of the Red Devils, against Southampton at St. Mary’s on Sunday.

Ronaldo, who played with Giggs for six years, said: “It was a pleasure for me to play with you at Manchester United, I will remember it always.

“It was an unbelievable feeling to play with you at 18 years old. I learn a lot with you, you are a fantastic player.”

The Portugal captain, who picked up the 2013 Ballon d’Or award in January, then joked about the Welshman’s age - before wishing him the best for the future.

“I think you do well because you’re a little bit old now,” Ronaldo added. “I wish all the best for you and your family. Take care, bro.”

Giggs is expected to be named as part of Louis van Gaal’s coaching staff next week. The Dutchman, who will lead the Netherlands during next month’s World Cup finals in Brazil, is poised to be named as Manchester United’s next permanent manager.
