The New England Patriots may have taken strides in their search for Tom Brady's successor during the second round of the NFL draft tonight, and also taken another step to clarifying the future of Ryan Mallet.

With 62nd overall pick, the Patriots selected the former Eastern Illinois Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo to join his personal favourite player Tom Brady in New England.

Garoppolo may have to wait a while until he sees any extended field time, what with the Patriots still having one of the best Quarterbacks in NFL history as their starter, but they have now invested in a name for the future who will gain some great tutelage under Brady and Bill Belichick.

the selection of Garoppolo has also given the league an indication to the franchises intentions with regards their heavily sought after second string Quarterback, Ryan Mallet.

Mallet has just entered the final year of his rookie contract and many franchises are rumoured to be interested in him but until now, the Patriots weren't in a position to listen to trade offers.

Now with Garoppolo Mallet's future could soon become much clearer.
