Diego Costa agent pushing for Chelsea transfer

Chelsea were reported to have last week agreed a deal to secure the transfer of Diego Costa from Atletico Madrid in the summer transfer window. And while it has since been claimed that Atletico are desperate to hold onto their top goalscorer for another season, the agent of Costa is pushing for a move to west London.

Costa has scored 35 goals this season with Atletico in contention to clinch a La Liga and Champions League double, and his performances have supposedly led to a formal £32 million bid from Chelsea. But while Atletico may be fighting to retain the services of Costa until 2015, Marca report that the player’s representative wants to take his client to Chelsea.

The acquisition of a striker of some repute has been identified as a summer priority for Chelsea, with Jose Mourinho having lost faith in his current trio of Fernando Torres, Samuel Eto’o and Demba Ba. Torres may well be off to Inter during the transfer window, and it could be that Eto’o and Ba also both leave Stamford Bridge.

This would, of course, but further pressure on Mourinho to reinforce his goalscoring ranks, although the Costa may not be as inevitable as it one appeared it would be.

While Chelsea are the clear frontrunners to sign Costa, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has also been linked with a move to bring the 25-year-old Spain international to the Emirates Stadium.
