Southampton star Adam Lallana has agreed terms with Liverpool over a £20million summer move to Anfield, according to reports.
The Daily Star claims that the England international, who coincidentally was today named in Roy Hodgson’s 23-man squad for the World Cup in Brazil, has consented to a move to Merseyside and will officially become a Liverpool player before he meets up with the national squad on May 19.
The news will not only come as quite a shock to Saints supporters, who recently saw Lallana win four awards at the club’s end of season awards for his impressive contributions, but will also likely be met with dismay by Manchester United fans. The Red Devils were known admirers of the wingers talents, and it was thought that they would rival Liverpool all the way for his signature this summer.
However, providing reports are to be believed, the Reds have virtually won the race for Lallana, and will pay £20million to Southampton to finalise the deal. Of course a quarter of that figure will be owed to Bournemouth as a result of a clause in the agreement that saw the 26-year-old transferred to the St. Mary’s Stadium back when he was 12.
It’s bad news for United fans, but the Liverpool faithful are sure to be pleased.
