Shipp, a 22 year old rookie out of Notre Dame helped the Fire secure their first win of the season in a thriller at Red Bull Arena.
Red Bulls attacker, Bradley Wright-Phillips also netted a hat-trick in the game making it the first time in the MLS that two players had scored three goals.
Shipp is the first Fire player this season to be honored with the award and deservingly so as the youngster has propelled the struggling Chicago outfit from the bottom of the Eastern Conference.
However, the starlet seemed just happy to be playing well for the team when interviewed by the Chicago Tribune after the game:
“I’m honestly just happy to get the first win for this team. If I score three goals and we don’t win the game it doesn’t really matter. So, that’s what’s important.”
The Fire will next face current Eastern Conference leaders, Sporting Kansas City at home next Sunday where they will be hoping to continue their good form against the defending MLS cup champions.
