Dutch coach Louis van Gaal has hinted that striker Robin van Persie will become his Manchester United captain, according to The Sun

If reports are to be believed, the 62-year-old is set to become the new chief at The Theatre of Dreams, and could now make Van Persie his skipper.

The Sun have suggested that the fact that Van Gaal discusses his formations with the striker shows just how close the pair are.

Van Gaal, of course, is with Van Persie and Co. on international duty, and when discussing Van Persie, he said: “I discussed changing the formation with Robin as I talk about these matters with my captains.

“I spoke to him about the way of playing and my ideas.” RVP is fit for Brazil after shrugging off his knee injury."

Manchester United fans will now be hoping the club tie up a deal for Van Gaal in the near future, as they target a successful 2014/15 campaign.

The Red Devils suffered a nightmare season under David Moyes, and will be looking to quickly return to the Champions League after missing out  this time around.

And Van Persie, who will enter his third season as a Manchester United player, could well be the club'c captain.
