David Luiz to be subject of Alexis Sanchez & Alex Song swap offer

Barcelona are prepared to offer Alex Song and Alexis Sanchez to Chelsea in order to lower the asking price for David Luiz, so that they can purchase the Brazilian this summer.

Portuguese newspaper A Bola claims that the Catalan giants are keen to force through a move for Luiz in order to replace Carles Puyol in the heart of their defence, but are wary about paying the mooted €35million it will take to land him. As such it’s said that they’re willing to give Chelsea the opportunity to buy Song, and possibly Sanchez as well, as part of a deal which would see the asking price for Luiz drastically lowered.

Both of the aforementioned Barca stars are reportedly up for sale this summer as part of the club’s clearance sale as they look to freshen things up, and their acquisitions may appeal to Mourinho as he looks to strengthen his side with a view to winning the Premier League next term. However the Blues do have other offers on the table, and Bayern Munich’s ability to pay cash plus Mario Mandzukic may present Mourinho with an offer he simply can’t refuse given the circumstances.

The purchase of a prolific striker is said to be Chelsea’s priority this summer and though Sanchez can play there, Mandzukic would be the far more natural option in this instance. The Croatian has 26 goals in all competitions this year to his counterpart’s 15, and the fact that he is deployed as an out and out centre forward, rather than a wide-man, could be a factor in Mourinho’s decision.

As for Luiz it appears that his fate has been all but sealed. It now seems more a matter of when he is sold as opposed to if.
