Atletico Madrid could cancel Chelsea's deal for £32m-rated Diego Costa if they don't get Romelu Lukaku in return.

According to the Daily Star, Atletico are demanding Lukaku as a part of the deal that would bring Costa to Stamford Bridge this summer. Chelsea thought they had a £32m deal for Costa in the bag, with a five-year contract thought to be agreed.

But Costa publicly distanced himself from the reports when speaking to Marca this week. He said: "People say a lot of stupid things," when asked about Chelsea's interest.

Costa understandably wants to focus on his football, with the Spain international set for two of the biggest games of his club career to date.

Atletico have a chance of completing an historic double, with a La Liga title decider against Barcelona at the Nou Camp tomorrow followed by the Champions League final against Real Madrid next weekend.

And the latest reports from Spain indicate Atletico are ready to pull the plug on the Costa deal, which was expected to be completed following the conclusion of Atletico's season.

They view Lukaku as a ready made replacement for Costa, and want the Belgian international to join as part of the deal. Lukaku has enjoyed two successful loan spells away from Stamford Bridge since signing for the Blues, and it's not clear whether he features in Jose Mourinho's plans moving forward next term.
