Arsenal are looking to complete a £7m deal for Toulouse defender Serge Auirier as Bacary Sagna closes in on a move to Manchester City.

The 21-year-old has been lined up as a long-term replacement for the departing French right-back, who is expected to sign for the Premier League champions after confirming he will not extend his Arsenal contract.

City are favourites to complete the signing of the the 31-year-old, with Arsene Wenger keen to secure a replacement as quickly as possible, in order to keep the fans happy.

Auirier caught the eye during an impressive season and was named in the Ligue 1 team of the year, with 6 goals and 6 assists during the latest campaign, and will line up alongside Yaya Toure for the Ivory Coast at next month's World Cup.

With the ability to play in a variety of defensive positions, coupled with his attacking prowess, the Arsenal boss believes he is the perfect signing, and is hopeful a deal can be concluded before the tournament gets underway.

Arsenal put an end to their nine-year wait for a trophy this weekend, after coming back from two goals down to defeat Hull 3-2 after extra time in a thrilling FA Cup final.
