Van Gaal eyeing move for Mandzukic

New Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has set his sights on Bayern Munich striker Mario Mandzukic, according to The Daily Mail.

If reports are to be believed, the Dutch coach - who signed a three year deal with the Red Devils earlier today - wants to bring the 27-year-old to Old Trafford in the up coming market.

Manchester United's interest in the forward will come as a blow to Premier League duo Arsenal and Chelsea, who have also been linked with the player's services.

Reports had suggested that Arsenal and Chelsea were in the driving seat to land the Croatian ace, however it remains to be seen as to whether United now step up in the race to bring him to the Premier League.

It certainly looks likely that the striker will end up in the Premier League this summer, after he reportedly fell out with Bayern boss Pep Guardiola, and was consequently left out of the German cup final this past weekend.

Van Gaal already has the likes of Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie at Old Trafford and the signing of Mandzukic would only add to the array of attacking talent at the club.

The race could well heat up in the coming weeks with Van Gaal, Mourinho and Wenger set for their first transfer tussle of the summer.
