NXT is taking the WWE by storm...it doesn't matter if you are an active viewer of the developmental programme, but it's almost a certainty that some of your future favourite superstars are competing on NXT right now.
Fans have warmed up to the likes of The Shield and The Wyatt Family; two popular teams who worked through NXT. But it is a shame that most of their fans weren't aware of who The Shield or even The Wyatt Family even were before their main roster debuts.
You can imagine just how much better the reaction The Shield would have received when The Hounds of Justice made their explosive main roster debut at Survivor Series; taking out Ryback in the WWE Championship main event, if the fans tuned in to NXT to watch them actually become The Shield.
Or even with The Wyatt Family, their debut would have been even more highly anticipated if fans tuned in to see the formation during their NXT days, rather than basing their reaction of weekly vignettes.
Nevertheless, it is great to see the former NXT superstars are receiving the recognition they rightfully deserve, and to avoid such a thing happening again, or to stay one step ahead of your friends, we've put together a simple NXT guide where you can go back to watch them, and ultimately pick your favourite superstar to support in their potential journey to the main roster.
There are a number of NXT superstars competing in developmental right now, but I've picked the superstars that excel in certain areas and are likely to make the jump to the main roster - and succeed.
So continue reading to see which superstars I've selected as ones you should keep an eye on, and pick as your favourites.
I can't stress enough just how brilliant Adrian Neville is. He may not be the typical superstar the WWE look for to be the next big thing in the WWE; but we have seen smaller superstars break that barrier with the likes of Rey Mysterio and even Daniel Bryan most recently. Adrian Neville may be small, but he is just as talented and definitely one of the top two most talented superstar in NXT today. If you are a fan of a great in-ring competitor, a brilliant high-flier and a likeable superstar, then start following Adrian Neville.
'The man that gravity forgot' certainly lives up to that moniker with his consistently impressive matches and the standard of those matches would easily make it to any WWE pay-per-view. He may not be the greatest of talkers and his strong Geordie accent may be difficult for the American audience to understand, but his wrestling skills do most of the talking. He has the look of a future superstar, he is primed for success in the main roster and the current NXT Champion is one you should hold in high regards.
If you're a fan of somebody who is naturally gifted on the microphone, comfortable on the big stage and a fan of smaller wrestler's then Aiden English is the superstar you should follow. He isn't the biggest of athletes in the WWE but that doesn't really matter as he is one of the best on the microphone, perhaps levels above the majority of the talent currently competing in NXT, and picking up on microphone skills is something you learn to do in developmental and English is already excelling in that department.
His journey to the main roster will be an interesting one, as he has a brilliant gimmick where he utilises his theatre gimmick and this allows him to be a natural performer unlike others; where he shows his talents by singing a different song in his entrance each time he is performing. He is a unique NXT superstar and if you;re looking to support an unorthodox superstar; Aiden English is your man.
If you're an old school tag team wrestling fan then look no further than The Ascension. The team of Konnor and Viktor have run riot in the tag team division and currently hold the NXT Tag Team Championships. Their distinct, dark gimmick was one which was over with the fans, and they were even touted to be the team assisting Kane in taking out The Shield at WrestleMania, instead the New Age Outlaws took on that task, but it's no secret that The Ascension would have been the greater option.
Neither man reeks charisma but they are fortunate that they play their roles so well, both dark and tough - and they translate that to the ring and they showcase it with their performances in the ring week in - week out. They are solid in-ring competitors together, compliment each other very well and have the potential to be very successful because of their gimmick, like tag teams in previous years such as The Legion of Doom and even Demolition. There aren't many more tag teams left to take on in NXT; a main roster push is due very soon and if you do have a keen interest in tag team wrestling, then I'd recommend you start to follow Konnor and Viktor; The Ascension.
Enzo Amore and Big Cass
Bada-boom, the realest guys in the room. There's really no one without the other. You are forced to like them both because they are so charismatic and equally as impressive inside the ring. They have a unique ring presence and don't look like actual superstar you would want to watch, but once you do tune in to see what Enzo Amore and Colin Cassidy have to offer, you will be tuning in every single week. They are a completely different team to The Ascension and just as talented, if not more talented. Purely because they are so comfortable on the microphone.
Their witty one-liners and the way they bounce off each other is unlike any team or superstars in NXT and we'll be lucky to witness that on the main roster when they eventually make the jump. Their distinct New Jersey accents make them stand out from others and not many superstars would be able to make a word such as 'soft' so popular, but Amore has managed to make 'SAWFT' trend all across NXT every single week. If charismatic superstars, good in-ring workers and likeable guys are what you enjoy; then you'd be wise to select Enzo Amore and Big Cass as your favourite superstars.
A superstar like Rey Mysterio took the WWE Universe by surprise when he debuted in the WWE, although he had a pretty solid background in WCW. his high-flying style was exciting for most fans in the WWE. Kalisto is another superstar you should be excited by and follow if you are a big fan of the high-flying style. He might not be the biggest star in the company but he will certainly be a star attraction on the main roster, and a star attraction in the WWE equals big bucks. So there's a good chance Kalisto could be a big hit on the main roster.
It's a good thing he is remaining in NXT right now, teaming with Ricardo Rodriguez - under his El Local gimmick - as this will allow him to hone his skills before making the jump to the main roster, and desperately trying to avoid becoming another Sin Cara. He has the in-ring skills to succeed, he is great to watch and the fans always get on his side, you high-flying fans will enjoy watching Kalisto in action.
If you're a fan of what the WWE like to see as the face of the company, a big, imposing figure who remains athletic then Mojo Rawley is someone you would follow and support. He is a beast inside the ring and very quick for his size, and you just can't help but like someone so genuine. He's full of energy and he shows it inside the ring, although he may not be the best of in-ring competitors he is quickly improving every single week and he could be a big hit on the main roster if his gimmick remains popular.
Mojo Rawley is one to keep an eye on right now, if it works he will be massive, if not then he'll certainly remain a top NXT star.
This would be my top pick, Sami Zayn is my favourite WWE superstar and he's still competing in NXT, so it shows just what impact NXT on the fans and I'd highly recommend you jump on the Sami Zayn bandwagon now before he does make his guaranteed main roster debut. He is just that good. On the microphone he can get the audience on his side without saying many words, he is a likeable and genuine superstar that has travelled and wrestled in so many countries and you can see that this is his passion, and he converts that passion into every single one of his performances.
He is incredible in the ring, perhaps one of the best in the company today and the fans that don't watch NXT will be mesmerised with what he can pull off in the ring when he does eventually appear on Raw. The man is heading towards greatness even at this early stage, he has the look, the skill and will be marketable, Sami Zayn deserves more attention than he is already getting and is my top pick as the superstar you should pick as your favourite.
The final superstar I've picked out is Tyler Breeze, the self-proclaimed gorgeous one has taken NXT by storm ever since he was repackaged and it was worked, his 'selfie' gimmick and attitude in general has resulted in many comparisons to the Ben Stiller comedy flick, Zoolander. His gimmick gets people interested and that is key, there have been concerns by fans that he is too similar to Fandango but I believe there are more options for Breeze, plus he is in NXT so any last minute changes can work in his favour.
He is great in the ring, good on the microphone and obviously - comfortable on camera. Is he a marketable superstar? I believe so, with his gimmick he probably can shift thousands of shirts and other merchandise so he probably will make a main roster debut very soon. If you enjoy watching charismatic superstars on your television sets; check out Tyler Breeze.
