Tottenham are preparing a surprise bid for Lazio defender Stefan Radu, who has also attracted transfer interest from Manchester United.

According to the Daily Star, the 27-year-old left-back - who is also capable of operating in central defence - could be on his way to the Premier League this summer, with an exit from Stadio Olimpico seemingly imminent.

Radu has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford as a possible successor to Patrice Evra. The Red Devils are also on the lookout for centre-back cover, following the recent departure of Nemanja Vidic to Inter Milan.

However, Manchester United could now face competition for the former Romania international's signature, with Spurs allegedly joining the race to secure the versatile defender's services.

Tottenham are currently without a manager following the recent sacking of Tim Sherwood, but with the help of director of football Franco Baldini chairman Daniel Levy is closing in on a deal to bring Radu to White Hart Lane.

Radu made 30 appearances for Lazio last season, but was unable to prevent them from a lowly ninth place finish in Serie 'A'.

Having been with the Italian club for the past five seasons, the former Dinamo Bucharest star looks ready to embark on a new challenge in 2014/15.
