Green Bay Packers signing slammed by scouts for drug use

The Green Bay Packers struggle at the tight end position saw them pick up undrafted free agent Colt Lyerla out of Oregon yesterday.

Lyerla is an interesting figure and he couldn't be any similar too now-jailed former Patriots star Aaron Hernandez if he tried. Lyerla definitely had the talent to be a selection on Day 2 of the draft in Radio City Music Hall, New York but his multiple off-field problems made him an un-draftable prospect.

Here's some snippets Lyerla's draft profile about what has made him such a disliked figure. Lyerla was suspended from his high school team, missed the first week or Oregon Spring Camp (no reason given), called the Sandy Hook school massacre a conspiracy on Twitter and called parent's of dead children liars, missed a game due to "flu" but his coach said it wasn't, was suspended and then quit the Ducks, had his driving license suspended after four violations in two years and to top it all off was arrested for possession of Crack Cocaine.

What a pro.

And if multiple NFL scouts opinions are to go by, the youngster won't be a professional for very long. The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel asked scouts from AFC and NFC teams what they thought about the player and the results weren't good to say the least! Here's a pick:

AFC scout: "There's some off-field stuff with him that's kind of scary. I'm not a huge fan. He's more of a receiver. He doesn't block well. Knowing Ted (Thompson), he's not worth the trouble. I don't think Ted would mess with a guy like that."

NFC scout: "Wouldn't touch him. He's off our board."

AFC scout: "He's the wild card in this whole thing. Extremely talented kid. Quit the team this year. Has had multiple off-the-field issues. Just a real nightmare in that regard. Is he going to be the Aaron Hernandez kind of player, a first-round talent that somebody gets in the fourth round? Colt quit. Aaron played. It's hard to justify all the quitting."

AFC scout: "I wouldn't sign him. I wouldn't do that to my owner."

NFC scout: "Kid's a mess. He is probably one of the worst kids in this draft. He screwed up everything. Drugs. Quitting. You name it, it's happened. I would never trust him. I couldn't imagine anybody taking him with those credentials. No way."

Good luck Packers fans and coaches. Let's see if he makes the final 53 man cut.
