The Texas Rangers have announced that first baseman Prince Fielder has undergone neck surgery that will keep him out for the remainder of the season.

A disastrous season for injuries so far, the bad news continues as Fielder is set for surgery that is scheduled on Tuesday, subsequently meaning he will miss the rest of the 2014 MLB season.

The 30-year-old Fielder arrived at the Texas Rangers after an off-season trade and has thus far played 42 games with his new franchise.

The big hitter had met with Dr.Drew Dossett who is a spine specialist after he had felt some weakness and soreness in his left arm.

The Rangers have been struck with many other injuries which have caused a tumultuous start to the campaign, the bad news on Fielder just adds to the woes of the organisation.
