Cameron Brannagan emerges as surprise Barcelona target

Barcelona are preparing a shock move for highly-rated Liverpool playmaker Cameron Brannagan this summer.

Sport Witness reports how the 18-year-old attacking midfielder has earned rave reviews in the Merseyside club's development squad in 2013/14, and looks set to make the step up to the first-team next season.

Brendan Rodgers is believed to have been suitably impressed with the talented teenager and plans to offer him the chance to make a breakthrough at Anfield in the same way he gave the same opportunity to Raheem Sterling two years ago.

However, according to Spanish publication Marca, Barcelona have set their sights on luring Brannagan to Camp Nou, having kept a close eye on the youngster's development over the past 12 months.

Liverpool had the foresight to secure the talented starlet to a professional contract, meaning that they can name their price if the Spanish giants firm up their interest in the versatile forward.

Brannagan is viewed as having great potential by both Barcelona and Liverpool, and could be moulded into an exciting star in the future.

The Premier League giants will be determined to retain the player's signature, but might consider selling should the Catalan club make a lucrative enough offer, as they continue their investment for the long-term future.
