Tottenham’s Erik Lamela is a summer transfer target for Inter Milan, according to Sky Sports.

Milan’s president Erik Thohir said that manager Marco Materazzi is a fan of both Lamela and Wolfsburg midfielder Luiz Gustavo.

Speaking on Sky sports Thohir said, "Mazzarri likes Lamela and Luiz Gustavo, but everything will depend on the situation of the market.

"In about two weeks we hope to be able announce a new player.”

Lamela is known to be frustrated after a poor first season in English football and he may therefore tempted by the offer of a move elsewhere.

However, a major stumbling block would be Lamela’s five year contract with the club, as well asthe fact that the Argentine cost Spurs 30m euros.

Despite initial optimism that the player would be the perfect replacement for Gareth Bale, who had signed for Real Madrid in world record deal, the star failed to live up to his promise and was ruled out for the rest of the season through injury in February.

In total, the player made only 9 league appearances for the Lilywhites last season and still has a lot to prove.

Much to his embarrassment, the player was recently named as one of the ten worst buys of 2013/14.

Given his underwhelming performances, it is unlikely that any club would be willing to pay the fee that saw him move to Tottenham in the first place, and it is therefore likely that the player will stay at White Hart Lane for at least another season.

Indeed, if Lamela is finally able to replicate the form that saw him become such an attractive prospect, then there is still every chance that he could become a first-team regular.
