Liverpool & Arsenal set for disappointment over Alexis Sanchez

Arsenal and Liverpool have been told to forget about signing Barcelona Alexis Sanchez, becasue the Camp Nou club have no intention of letting him go for any amount of money this summer.

Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo are running with quotes from Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu in Chilean publication El Mercurio, that reaffirm the club's desire to hang on to the exciting forward. Both Liverpool and Arsenal were credited with serious interest in the Chile international, though it was also reported that they were falling behind Juventus in the race to sign him.

However, it appears all three clubs at Emirates Stadium, Anfield and Juventus Stadium will have to look elsewhere as Bartomeu dismissed any suggestion of a transfer anywhere, never mind to the Serie A champions specifically.

"Alexis is not for sale and has a contract, he has been an excellent player for the team and has had an excellent season with Barcelona," he is quoted as saying in the report."

"Obviously Alexis comes into our plans for next season, he is a highly rated player at this club. We know nothing of Juventus and they have not made any official offer."

Arsenal's interest in the Barcelona star is understandable as they lacked real pace to get beyond defences last season when the likes of Theo Walcott, Aaron Ramsey and Mesut Özil were injured around the same time. The Chilean would provide pace to burn and the ability to play across the front line, while also providing an eye for goal - he scored 21 goals for Barcelona last season.

However, Liverpool have an abundance of pace in attack in the form of Raheem Sterling, Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez, which was the basis for their success in the Premier League last season. However, their second-placed finish means a Champions League campaign next season and Brendan Rodgers will need greater depth in his squad if the Anfield club are going to cope with the increase in fixtures and maintain success.
