Chelsea reject Samuel Eto'o wants to join Arsenal this summer to prove to former manager Jose Mourinho that he still has what it takes to play in the Premier League.

The Daily Mirror reports how the Cameroonian striker - who was released by the Blues upon the expiry of his contract - is keen to move to north London to prolong his stay in England.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is on the lookout for attacking reinforcements to provide cover for Olivier Giroud at the Emirates Stadium next season, and is believed to be considering a number of possible options.

Eto'o would not cost Arsenal anything, but his wages might prove to be a sticking point, unless the former Chelsea man is prepared to take a significant cut to what he was earning at Stamford Bridge.

The 33-year-old has already received lucrative offers from the MLS, but has made clear his desire to remain in the Premier League, and ordered his representatives to sound out Arsenal about the possibility of a potential transfer.

Mourinho allegedly wanted to retain Eto'o for the 2014/15 campaign, but after angering the former Barcelona and Inter Milan star with comments questioning his age, it ruled out any chance of the player staying in west London.
