Manchester United hope that landing Luke Shaw can begin their summer spending spree, according to The Manchester Evening News.

The Red Devils have been linked with the teenage full-back for some time now, and it appears that Louis van Gaal's side are closing in on a move for the England international.

Shaw, who has just travelled with The Three Lions to Miami, will be desperate to make his mark at this summer's World Cup.

Manchester United have already made a bid in the region of £27 million for the player's services, but it appears that the club may have to up their offer ahead of the transfer window.

However, once the deal for Shaw is completed, it looks likely that Manchester United chiefs will make their way through Van Gaal's list of targets with the £200 million they have at their disposal.

The Old Trafford outfit have been linked with a number of players in recent time, with reports suggesting the club want to sign the likes of Mats Hummels and Bruno Martins Indi.

It remains to be seen, however, as to how many players Manchester United recruit this summer as they target success in the 2014/15 campaign.
