Arsenal stars Olivier Giroud and Carl Jenkinson have turned their hand to commentary with, shall we say, mixed results. The Gunners duo commentated on the match between Arsenal and Sunderland at the Stadium of Light from earlier this season - and had a cheeky dig at their teammate Mesut Ozil.
Despite praising Ozil for his assist for the first goal, Giroud then jokingly slammed the Germany international seconds later after sending a tame free-kick towards goal. “My grandmother could catch it,’ Giroud stated bluntly before bursting out into laughter.
Needless to say, Jenkinson reserves special praise for his own contribution during the match, particularly his assist for Aaron Ramsey’s first goal of the match, while Giroud was also rather impressed with his own contribution.
But Jenkinson concluded the commentary by having a pop at Giroud’s finishing - a missed opportunity led the right-back to comment: “He can’t hit a barn door with a banjo in this second half.”
It’s certainly worth a watch - but we don’t expect either of them to become full-time pundits after hanging up their boots at the end of their careers.
