Memphis Grizzlies forward James Johnson was arrested in the early hours of Saturday morning, following a domestic assault.
Johnson was arrested for the assault of his wife where it is believed he hit and choked her after returning to the family home.
According to wmcactionnews5.com, Johnson was in the bathroom when we hit his wife in the face with an open hand and choked her, before pushing his mother-in-law, taking his baby child and leaving again.
Police arrived at the Johnson household where Johnson returned an took the Grizzlies' 6'9 star with them. He was booked into jail at 4:35am, although he was still there on Saturday afternoon .
The Grizzlies have since released a statement confirming that they were gathering information about the incident and had no further comment to make at the time.
Johnson, who is easily identified due to his neck tattoo which features his son's name, was confirmed as the offender after his police photograph was released.
The 27-year-old has not yet been resigned by Memphis for next season, and with behaviour like this against his name, he may not be doing his case any good whilst in need of a contract.
Johnson is due to appear in court on Monday.
