Liverpool fans, officials and manager Brendan Rodgers will have been buoyed on Saturday after hearing the words of a former Manchester United striker.

This is because Diego Forlan has insisted that Luis Suarez in content at Anfield and is not considering any approach from the likes of Real Madrid should they come calling. It was in an interview with that Forlan uttered the words every Liverpool fan was desperate to hear and refused to address any notion that Suarez wanted out.

"Luis Suarez is very happy at Liverpool. They are all rumours for now. If at any time he signs for Real Madrid, I will answer that question," he said.

There has been intense speculation surround Suarez's future with the Reds following their collapse at the end of the season, which saw them throw away an enviable chance to win the Premier League. Real Madrid were the club most heavily linked with a possible bid and Liverpool officials may be worrying about a repeat of the saga from last summer, where the 27-year-old openly admitted wanting to leave and join Arsenal.

As it was, the Anfield club managed to hang on to their star forward and the success of doing so was shown in his 31 goals in only 33 league games. Liverpool had their best challenge for a title in a number of years, but the pain of handing it to Manchester City will be slightly eased by the prospect of Champions League football next term, which was part of Suarez's motivation for seeking a move last summer.
