Karim Benzema has stressed he wants to remain a Real Madrid player despite continuing speculation linking the French striker to a host of clubs like Arsenal and PSG.

Real Madrid will be making a marquee signing during the summer with Luis Suarez top of their shopping list, however Real Madrid president, Florentino Perez still needs to complete negotiations with Benzema over the renewal of his contract.

Benzema has made it perfectly clear that he wants to remain at the club he has served for the last five-years, and his agent, Karim Djaziri broke his silence to L'Équipe, in the hope that some of the speculation would die down.

"Talks about renewing began quite a long time ago. We got together with Florentino Pérez last September, and then again in December, then in March and now, last Monday."

"It is true that his contract has not been extended, but Karim is a man of his word, and he told Florentino that he wants to remain at the club of his dreams for as long as possible. What is certain is that, whatever happens, he is not going to leave Real Madrid"

Carlo Ancelotti wants to keep his man after a season which saw the Frenchman score 17-goals in La Liga, combining with Ronaldo and Bale as the most potent strike-force in Europe.

Former Real Madrid and Mexico striker, Hugo Sanchez, has weighed in suggesting Benzema needs too toughen up if he wants to remain at Real Madrid.

"Benzema is a player who can be a number 9 or a number 10, but he needs to be a bit tougher, a bit more aggressive, to show a bit more character. It will be hard for him to change now, and I do respect his style."

"But to be at Real Madrid you need that little bit more", said Sánchez.

The former Real striker is more than qualified to comment on Benzema after scoring 207 goals in 283 matches, during a seven-year career in the Spanish capital.

Sanchez also went on to give his full support to Luis Suarez, backing a potential move to the Bernabeu by the Uruguay international.

"Luis Suárez has a lot of good qualities, he is a fighter, he has a pedigree and a good temperament, and to survive in the penalty area, you have to have these qualities because the defenders will make mincemeat of you if you don't. Suárez can triumph perfectly well at Real Madrid if they end up signing him. He's got it all", he said.

Both players are currently involved in the World Cup, and one doesn't expect a definitive answer on their futures until after the completion of the tournament.
