Demetrious Johnson vs John Dodson II is a fight many have wanted to see since their Fight of the Night bout in January 2013. Now it seems wishes have been made true.
After Johnson defended his UFC flyweight title for the fourth time by defeating Ali Bagautinov at UFC 174, UFC President Dana White commented that John Dodson was the one who is most likely to meet 'Mighty Mouse' next. He said: "Dodson makes the most sense. Dodson is the man. I thought that fight was awesome. They are two of the fastest guys in the business; both technically sound. I like that fight. I'm not saying that is the next fight we are doing but I like it."
Dodson has impressed since he lost to Johnson in their bout last year. 'The Magician' has finished both Darrell Montague and John Morage in impressive style and looks to have improved since he lost in his first attempt of snatching the UFC gold.
Their first bout was a superb contest and had everything in terms of entertainment value. Dodson almost finished Johnson in the second round when knocking his opponent down twice however 'DJ' battled on well to secure the victory, nearly finishing the fight himself in the closing stages.
As for Johnson, he put in his most impressive performance in the fight after his encounter with Dodson. He met Joseph Benavidez, the man who he'd fought to a razor-thin split decision victory to win the first ever flyweight title. Nonetheless, Johnson didn't leave it that close in their second encounter, as he brutally KO'd the Team Alpha Male fighter in the very first round.
Both Johnson and Dodson fighters are very technical, hold power in their hands and are probably the two with the most speed in the UFC ranks. That adds up to make a formula bound to provide just an equally exciting fight as the first time they met.
