Seeing the young Englishman shipped out to Aston Villa on loan, it is hard to believe he was in Chelsea's starting XI for their incredible Champions League victory in 2012.
It looked as though the promising young left-back was being set-up to become the long-term successor to Ashley Cole, but the arrival of Jose Mourinho last summer pretty much put an end to that.
Cole has not been offered a new deal to stay at Stamford Bridge and there have been reports of Chelsea lining up Atletico Madrid left-back Felipe Luis as a replacement, with no mention of Bertrand.
The writing was on the wall last season when Mourinho had Spaniard Cesar Azpilicueta play out of position when he dropped Cole and Bertrand was left out on loan. The 24-year-old will have to try and reignite his career elsewhere.
