Germany will win the World Cup

Germany have become the 'nearly' team of world football after coming so close to World Cup victories on many occasions, but this year I believe they will do it.

Germany have made it to the semi-finals of the last two World Cups but lost both times. They lost to eventual winners Italy in extra time in 2006 and then lost to eventual winners Spain 1-0 in 2010.

The World Cup in 2002 saw them reach the final but they were beaten by a very strong Brazil side.

In the last couple of decades, they are always in and around the semi-final stage of the competition but they never seem to have enough to win it, but this year it is different.

The German squad in my opinion is one of the best, if not the best in the competition, especially now that Spain are out. They have at least two world class players in each position, players that would quite easily walk into any Premier League side.

Unlike most sides in the competition which are great in one area of the field but not in another, Germany are brilliant all over. They have proven goal scorers in Lukas Podolski and Miroslav Klose, as well as top attacking midfielders such as Thomas Muller and Mesut Ozil. Their defence is rock solid too with Mats Hummels and Per Mertesacker ahead of Manuel Neuer in goal.

Germany have already struck fear into their fellow competitors with a 4-0 win over Portugal, a game which saw Muller score a hat-trick.

Their next group fixtures are against Ghana and the USA and there is only one result I can see from these games. With the fire power Germany have I expect them to score at least another four goals in this group.

If Germany do progress out of the group in first position they will play the runner-up of Group H, which is the group with Belgium and Russia. I don't think any of the teams in that group will trouble the Germans.

The only team who can potentially match Germany would be Brazil as they have a strong squad and have the home advantage. The earliest these sides can meet is the semi-finals but if they do I think Germany will be too strong.

Winning the World Cup has always been a realistic target for the German national side but this time round I believe they will as they have the best squad and will not play any challenging teams until at least the quarter-finals.
