Dinamo Zagreb's academy has been rewarded of sorts with a nice recognition. According the CIES Dinamo Zagreb is third best club in the world at producing World Cup players.
Dinamo's youth academy harvests yearly tournament titles throughout Europe and is one of world football's premier academies. In 2013 they took one such won the prestigious Premier Cup which is organised by Manchester United and now in 2014 they won a major Swiss tournament where among other things knocked out Juventus and beat Valencia in the final and recently won its 11th title in its own tournament, Mladen Ramljak, which this year was attended by Atletico Madrid, Benfica and Bologna.
But like the superlatives were not enough, now some recognition comes the clubs way. Switzerland-based CIES (International Centre For Sports Studies) has concluded that Dinamo is the third best club at producing players participating in the ongoing World Cup finals in Brazil.
To arrive at this, the CIES has been studying the number of matches for the specific club the player has played until the player has reached 23 year of age. With in this context are also players between ages 15-21 who spent at least three years at the club.
Dutch Feyenoord top the list. They have nine players who together made a total of 882 appearances for the club. Which according to CIES standard becomes a coefficient of 12.29. In second place we find Barcelona, who also have nine players, but slightly fewer games (783), and the bronze lands at 11.61 which is Dinamo. The club's eight players have 812 games and a coefficient of 11.01.
Players representing Dinamo during the CIES timeframe is: Luka Modric, Eduardo da Silva, Vedran Corluka, Milan Badelj, Dejan Lovren, Sime Vrsaljko and Oliver Zelenika. Beyond that, the Croatian World Cup squad further seven players who represented / s Dinamo, but it do not fulfill CIES criterion.
