Will Ferrell is known for a lot of things, but playing professional soccer is not one of them.

That didn't stop US Soccer Federation President, Sunil Gulati, revealing the Anchorman actor as the USMNT's latest star player recently however.

Allegedly in Brazil to replace the stricken Jozy Altidore, a video has now emerged showing Ferrell doing his best to stir up the gathered US crowd ahead of what proved to be a pivotal game against Germany Thursday.

The actor had a strong message of defiance for fans of the Stars and Stripes too, offering to channel disgraced Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez and bite any opponent he came across.

Biting back

"I'm so honored to be playing," Ferrell told a packed out bar.

"I'm not in soccer shape right now but I'm going to try my best and I'm going to live up to the spirit of this American team that they've shown everyday.

"If the games get close I will bite the opponent.

"I will bite every German player if I have to," continued the comedian prior to the crunch game.

I Immediately regret this decision

Ferrell took inspiration from the actions of Liverpool striker Luis Suarez who was today banned for nine international games as well as from professional football for four months having been adjudged to have bitten Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini during Tuesday's Uruguay - Italy contest.

Suarez will have to sit out as Uruguay take on Colombia in their second round game this weekend, and will miss the rest of the tournament should the South American nation progress.

The United States meanwhile have, in the time since Ferrell made his rallying call, joined Uruguay in progressing to the knockout phase in Brazil.

Afternoon delight

While Ferrell of course never made it onto the field Thursday, due to strict FIFA rules which prohibit the inclusion of movie stars on national team rosters, the Unites States ended the day delighted with their work.

Even though they suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Germany, results elsewhere ensured that Jurgen Klinsmann's men progressed - finishing in second place in a difficult Group G.

They will face Belgium in the round of 16.
