Arsenal are preparing a £32million bid for Manchester United and Liverpool target Alexis Sanchez and have made him their number one target for this summer after he suffered World Cup heartache.

Sanchez missed his kick in Chile's penalty shootout defeat to hosts Brazil on Saturday evening, in the first of the round of 16 clashes. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is in Brazil as a pundit for French television and would have been impressed with the Barcelona winger's composed finish just after the half hour to cancel out David Luiz's early opener.

Chase stepped up

Wenger has obviously been impressed by the 25-year-old for some time as, according to a report, he is ready to offer £32million to take him to Emirates Stadium. Any offer from the Gunners is likely to interest both Manchester United and Liverpool, who are both credited with an interest in Sanchez in the report.

Both Old Trafford and Anfield have already got their spending under way this summer, but Wenger only has eyes for Sanchez and the report claims he has told officials at Arsenal he should be their priority.

Summer spree?

Arsenal are set to make a number of signings this summer as the French tactician looks to build on the momentum created by their FA Cup triumph at the end of last season. A forward, holding midfielder and cover in defence are needed following Bacary Sagna's decision to join Manchester City on a free transfer.

Meanwhile, Liverpool have reportedly asked Barcelona to include Sanchez in a proposed £80million deal to take Luis Suarez to Camp Nou. Manchester United are reportedly turning to the winger after a move for Arjen Robben encountered
