Football News

John Cena has been the leading baby face in the WWE for almost two decades, but now it looks like he is set to take on the unfamiliar role of heel.

But don't worry WWE fans you won't have to witness the superstar turning heel on any RAW episode anytime soon.

Cena's role as a villain will strictly be for the big screen after it was revealed that the WWE veteran will be starring in new Hollywood movie 'The Nest.'

Movie History

The movie, which is scheduled for release around Christmas 2015 and will star Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, is far from the first to include a performance from the 15 time WWE Heavyweight Champion but all of Cena's previous movie roles have been as a good guy - a role he has perfected down the years in his day job.

As well as appearing in WWE Studios produced movies such as The Marine and 12 Rounds, Cena has also played a recurring character in the Fred: The Movie trilogy whilst being lined up for a cameo in Judd Apatow's latest flick ' Trainwreck'.

'The Nest' however will likely be his highest profile role and one that will be interesting to watch from a WWE perspective as we see Cena's traditional role as the likeable good guy flipped on it's head in the movie which centers around two sisters who throw one last house party.

Heel Turn in WWE?

Whilst Cena returned to the summit of the WWE this past weekend - winning the WWE title at Money in the Bank - there have been rumors that the long time star could be set for a heel turn in the company itself in order to keep his character from getting stale after such a long run without controversy.

Whether that would go down well with fans is another question however. His recent feud with Bray Wyatt for instance reiterated just how good Cena is at playing the role of the All-American hero. While he may drawn criticism at times, he clearly remains the go to guy for WWE bosses when they are looking to develop new bad guys in the business.
