The long-running transfer saga concerning Romelu Lukaku has taken yet another twist, after it was revealed that German giants Wolfsburg are now in talks with Chelsea to sign the player.
Protracted race for Lukaku
In what’s looking likely to be a strong contender for the most protracted sale of the summer the 21-year-old has been linked with various clubs, including Arsenal and Tottenham, but it now looks as though it could be the Bundesliga where he ends up.
Initially it was thought that Wolfsburg had backed out of any potential deal when told that the Blues expected to recoup £32million for the striker, but they have returned to the charge and are now actively holding negotiations with Chelsea which could result in a transfer.
It's said Jose Mourinho may accept a cheaper deal for the services of the man who has spent the last two seasons on loan, and Lukaku himself has recently revealed that he has no intention of neither sitting on the bench nor being shipped out temporarily for a third consecutive term.
As such a transfer to Germany is feasible, particularly given the fact that former team-mate and compatriot Kevin de Bruyne is there.
Paul Pogba rumours
And far from being the only piece of juicy gossip emanating from Stamford Bridge today, strong rumours persist in stating that Paul Pogba is in town, with pictures appearing to confirm that he was in west London yesterday.
It’s said it will take £60million for Jose Mourinho to convince Juventus to sell the France midfielder, though quite what he’s doing flirting with the paparazzi in England remains open to interpretation. Naturally Chelsea fans will be hoping it's an indication that he's possibly here to negotiate.
The former Manchester United starlet has seen his stock rise considerably in recent months, and is now regarded as being perhaps the most exciting young talent in Europe. His displays both for Juventus and his national side have put him under intense scrutiny concerning whether or not he'd be inclined to move away from Turin, and at the moment Antonio Conte regards him as one of, if not the, most key members of his squad.
Though Pogba has never personally admitted that he would make a Chelsea move the option would give him the perfect opportunity to once again get back at United for letting him go prematurely rather than giving him the chance to prove himself in the first-team.
