Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal is ready to meet the asking price of Benfica star Nicolas Gaitan, according to the Express.
The report has suggested that the Red Devils boss, who is set to join up with his new squad at the start of next week, wants to land the £30 million rated winger in this transfer window.
If United are going to bring the winger to Old Trafford, however, then they will have to battle Spanish champions Atletico Madrid for his signature. Reports have indicated that the La Liga outfit have already had a £25m bid for his services rejected.
It remains to be seen as to whether Gaitan would be tempted by the prospect of playing for Van Gaal at Manchester United, or if a move to Atletico would be more appealing. Unlike United, the Spanish outfit will be playing in next year's Champions League competition, which could have a say in the Argentine's transfer choice.
The winger would certainly prove a great signing for the new United chief, with the star having played a key role in Benfica's fine campaign last term. With bags of ability, the Argentine has pace in abundance and would star alongside the likes of Juan Mata, Robin van Persie and Co. at the Theatre of Dreams.
He'd certainly give United another option in attack, as Van Gaal puts together his new-look Manchester United side. Central-midfielder Ander Herrera has already been purchased along with teenage full-back Luke Shaw from Southampton, and it remains to be seen as to whether the new Red Devils chief makes his move for Gaitan in the near future.
With Gaitan potentially arriving, United could be set to get rid of some of their own wingers in this market. Nani and Ashley Young have both been tipped to depart following less than impressive seasons in 2013/14. The duo proved extremely inconsistent under David Moyes, and could now be shipped out under the new regime.
The Red Devils do, however, have young duo Wilfried Zaha and Adnan Januzaj, who will both be desperate to make an impression under the new regime. Antonio Valencia also looks set to be part of Van Gaal's plans after penning a new three year deal with the club, so he will be hoping for a starring role next term. United's busy summer certainly looks set to continue over the coming weeks.
