In partnership with the NFL in the UK

Miami Dolphins need to remove their bigot problem

Over the past year, the Miami Dolphins have been in the limelight due to a bullying scandal, which led to teammate Jonathan Martin quitting the team. A large contributor to the lockeroom bullying is starting center Mike Pouncey. Pouncey was never punished by the NFL for his role in the Miami Dolphins bullying scandal.

As if Pouncey is incapable of good judgment, Mike has consistently been on the wrong side of morality. Just in the five month period of the NFL's investigation of "bullygate," Pouncey adamantly supported former teammate and future member of the chain gang, Aaron Hernandez and can be frequently seen sporting “Free Hernandez” attire. Hernandez has been firmly linked as the gunman in a double homicide in July of 2012.

Homosexual slurs

Just last weekend, the Pouncey brothers attacked a homosexual man in a South Florida night club. The event was a birthday party for the twin NFL offensive linemen. The Pouncey brothers allegedly yelled homophobic slurs towards Riquan James. James is an openly gay man who was invited to the twin's birthday party by fellow Miami Dolphin offensive lineman Bryant McKinnie.

According to James: “I heard a series of slurs from the Pouncey brothers, referring to me as less than a man, a f-----, a b----. I assume me asking them not to touch me rubbed them the wrong way. Then someone turned me around, and one of the Pouncey brothers hit me in the face. A gang of guys hit me. To protect myself from being really injured, I crawled up into a fetal position, until I got thrown out [of the club].”

Facial injuries

The injuries James sustained include facial injuries and a chipped tooth. Two other woman also sustained injuries, one being Ninya Pickett a friend of Riquan. Ninya Pickett told local Miami NBC station, "I noticed Maurkice had his hand in Ricky's face and he just hit him. So I jumped in to try and intervene and separate Ricky to get him out of there. That's when Maurkice turned around to punch me in my face." The group is preparing to sue the Pouncey brothers.

The group’s lawyer, Marwan Porter said "This kind of conduct cannot be tolerated. These are big men. They cannot conduct themselves in this manner. They think they can get a free pass.”

Ironically, during that birthday bash both Pouncey twins were photographed with "Free Hernandez" Hats.

For a team like the Miami Dolphins, Pouncey's behavior is unacceptable. The Dolphins have a cloud of backward hate lingering over the franchise and as if Mike is at home in such a fog, he perpetually acts like a bigot.

The bottom line is Maurkice Pouncey needs to be immediately released; to use a quote from the greatest Miami Dolphin of all-time "Winning without ethics is not winning at all" - Don Shula.
