Two NFL superstars went head to head at this years Nickelodeon kids choice sports awards in LA as Seattle Seahawks Safety Earl Thomas went against the Arizona Cardinals Wide Receiver Larry Fitzgerald.

What was the competition you ask? Was it a catch the ball contest? No, both donned the role of Quarterback for the night.

While both stood on a platform above a large tank of slime, they were tasked with throwing balls at the three discs above their opponents heads, pretty simple, the first man to knock down all three discs, dunks their opponent in the slime.

You can watch the hilarious video here.

Fitzgerald put in the best performance of the two superstars taking a commanding 2-0 lead before Thomas was able to hit back.

Fitzgerald sent Thomas into the slime and when questioned about what happened he simply said: "it happens like that sometimes".

He won the contest but it wasn't enough to keep the Arizona wide receiver out of the gunk as he was dropped in despite his victory.

It was a great scene from a great night and surely the next time that Fitzgerald and Thomas meet during the Seahawks clash with the Cardinals in week 12, it will surely be a bit more serious.

A look ahead

The Seahawks and the Cardinals are set to meet each other twice in the upcoming NFL season with the first clash coming in Seattle in week 12.

By the time the teams clash for the second time in week 16 it should be clear which of the two are heading for the play-offs.

It is heavily favoured to be the Seahawks who after winning the Super Bowl back in February, have managed to keep their core team in tact.

On their way to the championship last year, the Seahawks won the game in Arizona against their divisional rival but were beat at CenturyLink Field.

The Cardinals however will be hoping to improve on their 10-6 finish last season which despite being a winning record wasn't enough to secure post-season football or even 2nd place in their division.

In a division containing both teams who made it to the NFC Championship game, the Cardinals will have to have a great season in order to return to the play-offs.
