Football News

Mohamed Salah has been named in Chelsea's starting XI for their friendly encounter against League Two outfit AFC Wimbledon at Kingsmeadow on Saturday afternoon.

Salah starts

Egyptian international Salah - who joined the Blues from Swiss champions AFC Basel in January - hit the back-page headlines earlier this morning, with widespread reports suggesting his immediate future at the club was uncertain due to suggestions that he may have to return to his homeland to carry out military service.

Serbian midfielder Nemanja Matic will also start on Saturday afternoon, having been included as a substitute during the 5-0 romp of Wycombe in Chelsea's very first pre-season clash on Wednesday night.

Veteran Mark Schwarzer continues in goal for the visitors, with Oriel Romeu - who ended speculation over his future by penning a new three-year deal to stay at Stamford Bridge yesterday - dropping to the bench along with Nathaniel Chalobah.

No Cech

There is no place in the squad at all for Petr Cech, with rumours still circulating that he could be set to leave Chelsea this summer with Belgian starlet Thibaut Courtois expected to be installed as Jose Mourinho's new first-choice goalkeeper following his return from a three-year loan stint at Atletico Madrid.
