Atletico Madrid are looking to enter the race for Alberto Moreno as a result of Liverpool failing to lure the Spanish full back to Anfield.

Atletico are hoping to strengthen their left-back department after selling Felipe Luis to Chelsea for £15.8m and view Moreno as an ideal replacement after his exceptional performances for Sevilla in La Liga and the Europa League last season.

Liverpool were in pole position to sign Moreno but refused to pay the £20m Sevilla asked for, which has allowed Atletico to ponder a move for the youngster.

International future

Moreno was included in Vicente del Bosque's 30-man provisional squad for the World Cup but failed to make the final squad. However, many expect Moreno to challenge Jordi Alba for the left back spot for Spain in Euro 2016.

Moreno is an attractive option for both Atletico Madrid and Liverpool as at 22 years of age, he still has his best years ahead of him.

Top target

Diego Simeone is looking to strengthen his side as he bods to prepare them for their La Liga defence and has made Moreno one of his top transfer targets.

He has already seen Diego Costa and Filipe Luis depart for Chelsea and has had to withstand interest for some of his other star players, such as Arda Turan, Koke and Joao Miranda.

Liverpool could reignite their interest in Moreno after selling Suarez to Barcelona for £75m although sources have confirmed Moreno would prefer to stay in Spain, meaning Atletico Madrid are currently the most likely destination for the young Spanish defender.
