Atletico Madrid has announced the transfer of Filipe Luis to Chelsea. The left back was a key part of Atletico's title winning defense which only allowed 26 goals in the entire season.

He said in an official statement that he "will always be a Rojiblanco" and that he is fulfilling a childhood dream by joining the premier league. The transfer fee is reported to be around €20million.

Chelsea also had a stellar defensive season and only allowed 27 goals. They were looking for a replacement at the left back position after Ashley Cole signed a two year deal with Italian club AS Roma. Cesar Azpilicueta was moved to left back last season and played well, although he is naturally a right back.

Natural positon

Both players are very solid defensively, but Luis has shown to be better at attacking and creating chances. It will be interesting to see if Azpilicueta will return to his natural right back position and Luis takes the left spot.

This is the Blues fourth incoming transfer of the summer window. Luis will be moving from Atletico to Chelsea alongside striker Diego Costa and former Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas. Croatian youngster Mario Pasalic is joining from Hajduk Split.

Many departures

Chelsea also released Samuel Eto'o and Frank Lampard. They have recently sold David Luiz to Paris Saint-Germain for €50million. It also looks like striker Demba Ba will be moving to Besiktas in Turkey for around €8million.

Atletico has also had an active transfer window, signing Mario Mandzukic as a direct replacement for departed Diego Costa and goalkeeper Jan Oblak to replace Thibaut Courtois as he was recalled by Chelsea from his loan.
