Football News

WWE Battleground is now in the books and we turn our attentions to the biggest party of the summer. SummerSlam takes place on August 17 at Staples Center in Los Angeles, California and as expected more news continues to be released.

This week we almost have confirmation that Brock Lesnar will take on John Cena in the SummerSlam main event, Vince McMahon teases a Sting debut, four potential matches which could take place at SummerSlam as well as the plans WWE have for a visual spectacle at WrestleMania 31.

This article will contain potential spoilers, if you wish to avoid these; please turn back now.

John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar

This match has been rumoured to happen ever since Daniel Bryan was forced to vacate his WWE World Heavyweight Champion. The only question mark with this is just how many more dates will Lesnar work; if he is to become champion that is. We have previously shown you the leaked SummerSlam poster which has both Cena and Lesnar on it, but if that wasn’t enough then a promotional video for the match has been leaked online – highlighting that the greatest superstar will be taking on the most dominant athlete, which you can watch in the video below.

Potential SummerSlam plans

As we know, plans are always changing in the WWE and nothing is set in stone. Nevertheless four top matches are rumoured to be taking place at SummerSlam and barring any late changes or unforeseen circumstances, here is the current rumoured card.

John Cena will defend his WWE World Heavyweight Championship against Brock Lesnar in the main event, Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins will finally go at it, Randy Orton won’t take on Roman Reigns but Kane instead, whilst Reigns will be taking on Triple H. There were plans to push Reigns vs. HHH back until Night of Champions for the WWE Network renewals and that still could happen, right now this is the updated rumoured card. You should also expect to see another encounter between Bray Wyatt and Chris Jericho.

WWE: Is KENTA the perfect CM Punk replacement?

WWE’s newest acquisition KENTA was at the NXT tapings last week where he was in an interview with Renee Young; which you can watch below. It looks as if former WWE Cruiserweight Champion Funaki will be his translator. I’m not 100% sure if they will stick Funaki with KENTA full-time because as you will see in the video, KENTA is learning English pretty quickly.

The WWE are also planning to alter KENTA’s style which probably won’t sit well with the hard core fans, the reason for this is because although he invented the Go To Sleep, it was CM Punk who popularised this move and the company don’t want them to remember CM Punk if KENTA hits this move. Along with this; he probably won’t use his Busaiku Knee as Daniel Bryan is using it and his ‘Game Over’ submission manoeuvre is almost identical to Daniel Bryan’s Yes! Lock. Of course, they asked for his permission as a lot of talents not only in the WWE, but superstars all over the world look up to KENTA. So if his move-set is altered, expect to see some impressive manoeuvres regardless.

Vince McMahon teases a Sting appearance

Last week we were treated to the teaser trailer for Sting’s appearance in the upcoming WWE 2K15 video game, but that hasn’t stopped people from speculating that Sting will be stepping into a real WWE ring in the not too distant future. What we didn’t expect that Vince McMahon would be teasing it; on his official Twitter account he tweeted alongside an image of The Icon: “#WWE2K15 with @Sting Does art imitate life?” Let the speculation continue.

Right now Sting hasn’t signed a deal with the WWE but has signed a deal with 2K which is why he will be appearing in the video game, nevertheless it is expected that Sting will sign a deal with the WWE very soon as soon as terms are agreed by both sides. The WWE are also running a poll; asking the fans who they would want Sting to face; with no Undertaker as an option it is Bray Wyatt who is leading the votes.

WWE logo and Title change

The night after the SummerSlam pay-per-view the WWE will officially debut their new logo which will be on all posters, merchandise, videos etc. from here on. The new logo is already being used on the Network and on the corporate jet as well but they will be rolling out in just under a month.

The logo change does mean the WWE Championship belt will be altered, the new logo will be featured on it and the WWE have ordered the plates for the belt. It’s unclear whether the remaining Championships will feature the new logo as of yet.

WWE planning a visual spectacle at WrestleMania 31

Having taken inspiration from a recent Beyonce concert, there are some inside the WWE would want fans to light up the Levi's Stadium, home of the San Francisco 49ers. The way which this will be done - if it goes ahead - is that the fans will be using their cell phones and straight away you know this will be for a Bray Wyatt entrance. Recently we have seen impressive scenes with fans using their phones so you cna imagine just how impressive it could look on such a big scale.

There is one small problem though, the show is being held in California on west coast time, the fact that it is an outdoor stadium and the fact that it may not be dark enough means it might look as impressive or happen at all.
