With the departure of veteran defender Patrice Evra to Juventus could Daley Blind be about to become the latest arrival at Old Trafford this summer?

In a transfer window which has seen Nemanja Vidic, Rio Ferdinand and Patrice Evra all depart the 'Theatre of Dreams', United are currently facing the prospect of starting the season with only one recognised left back in the form of recent arrival Luke Shaw.

A new era begins

This summer has also in many ways seen the departure of the old guard of the Sir Alex Ferguson era, with many of the players that he signed during his tenure leaving to pursue new ambitions.

In a career with United that spanned over eight years, Evra won many awards and accolades including five Premier League titles, three league cups and one Champions League triumph.

Coupled with the departure of Alexander Buttner to Dynamo Moscow. Louis van Gaal is understood to be in the market for defensive reinforcements to beef up a back line which is lacking in both numbers and experience. Daley Blind is reportedly top of his wish list.

Van Gaal and Blind

The Dutchman coached the man from Amsterdam when he was manager of the Dutch national team, a side which Blind played a pivotal role in helping to finish third at the 2014 World Cup.

Currently playing his football for Dutch giants and hometown club Ajax, the versatile fullback has made over 100 appearances since making his debut in early 2008. He's also helped Ajax to dominate Dutch football in recent years, winning four consecutive Eredivisie titles along the way. and so has emerged as one of the hottest properties in Dutch football.

With United chief executive Ed Woodward promising more arrivals, Blind could well be the latest star to join Van Gaal's revolution at United this summer.
