Leonys Martin made it look cool and calculated but his heart must have been in his mouth after taking a catch at Yankee Stadium.

New York Yankee batsman Brain McCann connected with a Nick Martinez fastball which flew high into The Bronx night sky.

Just inches in front of the eight foot outfield walls Rangers outfielder Martin jumped up and grabbed at the ball which initially nestled in his glove but suddenly skipped out.

The resulting mid-air scramble gave Martin just enough time to recover and locate the ball at the second attempt to take the regulation catch.

Initially McCann was not sure whether the ball had deflected off the top of the wall or touched it on the way into Martin’s glove, meaning he could have been safe at second base.

But the catch was confirmed as clean and McCann was sent back to the dugouts with the scores level at 0-0 in the bottom of the second inning.

The Yankees went on to win the game on Tuesday night 2-1, with a 14-inning match being decided by Chase Headley who made the perfect debut.

His single enabled Brain Roberts to scamper home and earn a walk-off victory over the Texas Rangers.
