Van Gaal kicks off Manchester United tenure with 7-0 demolition of LA Galaxy

Louis van Gaal's Manchester United tenure kicked off in scintillating fashion with a crushing 7-0 defeat of LA Galaxy - a far cry from the limp 1-0 friendly defeat suffered by David Moyes in his first game as manager. The former Holland head coach has only been with the Red Devils a week, but his influence is already shining through. The team played an expressive, high tempo game, capped off by some very clinical finishing. Wayne Rooney scored twice, as did Ashley Young, but the biggest surprise on the scoresheet was Reece James - the 20-year-old left-back's debut brace will help stake a claim for a place in the squad as back-up to £27m signing Luke Shaw this season.
